Representation Of Teenagers In The Media

Introduction:

For my research project i have chosen to investigate how teenagers are represented in the media. I chose the teenagers because I'm a teenager my self and is really bad by the way teenagers are shown on TV. So i chose them to find how they are represented in all forms of media.

Section 1: Television

The Simpsons is a very good example of teenagers because they are represented in a bad way because Bart Simpson is aways doing bad stuff and he is a teenager. This shows that teenagers are bad people because even in cartoons they are represented as being bad and evil.

Another good example for a TV show is Skins. In the series teenagers are represented as being bad because in the series there is adolescent sexuality,death and substance abuse.

Section 2-Film:The film that i have chosen is called Kidulthood. In this film teenagers are represented as drug-dealing violent people.The film opens with a middle-class schoolgirl being horrifically bullied in a classroom. When her preoccupied businessman father picks up her from school, he fails to spot the bruises. Ten minutes later, she has hanged herself. In another sequence two girls trade sexual favours with older men for pocket money to spend at Topshop. This represents teenagers as being bad people who only think how to stab people for their money and have sex.

Aml Ameen is one of the stars in the film. He is represented as a violent person who goes and beats everyone up, and he also deals drugs. This represents all teenagers as being criminals.

Another film that represents teenagers as being bad is Shank. It this action film A gang set out on a chase to avenge the murder of one of their own. This represents teenagers as being bad by showing that they only go into gangs and shank people.

Section 3:News

Often in the news teenagers are represented as begin bad because of the riot thing that was going on in England during the summer holiday. Basically teenagers and gangs were braking windows and setting shops to fire. The police were not doing anything about it. Now the police are giving 5-6 months of jail for someone who stole a big water bottle.Some people think that this started when a police man shot a well known "gangster" called Mark Duggan who was 29.

Six teenage boys charged over a fire at a scrapyard under the M1 motorway in north London have appeared in court.
This shows us that teenagers have been setting fire on scrap yards. This shows us that teenagers are violent and setting fire to stuff.

Section 4: Conclusion

In conclusion teenagers are being represented very bad in the different types of media because they are shown as being violent and antisocial gang making vandals. However not all of the teenagers are bad some are rely good and are making exceptional work by doing their GCSES and getting A-C grades.

  1. Excellent work Petar well done. You have chosen some good examples and have incorporated some nice pictures into the work. Very impressive! Next time to improve your "representation" skills, always try and say what effect it might have on an audience, eg how they might be affected by seeing these representations.

    REPRESENTATION = B
